Aurelius Systems has secured $40 million in Series A funding to accelerate the development and production of its autonomous counter-drone platform, underscoring growing investor confidence in directed-energy defense technologies as drone warfare rapidly evolves.
The funding round was co-led by Draper Associates and KAS Venture Partners, with participation from General Catalyst, Hanwha Asset Management Venture Fund, Outlander, Alumni Ventures, Bravo Victor Venture Capital (BVVC), Detroit Venture Partners, Decisive Point, and several additional investors.
The capital will be used to advance Aurelius’ flagship Archimedes platform, expand manufacturing capacity, strengthen supply chain resilience through greater vertical integration, and accelerate customer deliveries. The company also plans to broaden its product portfolio and enter new markets while increasing long-term production readiness.
Archimedes is designed to counter increasingly sophisticated and coordinated drone threats using autonomous directed-energy technology. As low-cost unmanned aerial systems become a defining feature of modern conflicts, defense organizations are looking for scalable, cost-effective solutions capable of neutralizing large numbers of airborne threats without relying on expensive interceptor missiles.
The investment follows several notable milestones for Aurelius, including an integration partnership with American Rheinmetall, successful command-and-control interoperability demonstrations during Operation Jailbreak, platform validation at Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) 26-2, and continued progress toward manufacturing readiness.
Although still a relatively small company with 19 employees, Aurelius expects to more than double its workforce to over 40 employees by the end of 2026, reflecting its transition from technology validation to commercial and operational scaling.
The funding highlights a broader trend across the defense sector: investors are increasingly backing companies developing autonomous defense systems, directed-energy weapons, and counter-UAS technologies as militaries seek more economical and scalable ways to defend critical infrastructure and personnel against rapidly expanding drone threats.
