BAE Systems has been awarded a $145 million contract from the U.S. Navy to maintain and modernize the USS Nitze (DDG 94), an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer. The contract includes dry-docking the ship, underwater hull preservation work, upgrading the ship’s Aegis combat system and command and control equipment, and refurbishing the living spaces for the crew. The work is expected to begin in July and could reach a value of $161 million if all options are exercised. BAE Systems is a leading provider of ship repair and maintenance services and operates three full-service shipyards in California, Florida, and Virginia.
