L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has been awarded an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Navy, valued at up to $999 million, to deliver cutting-edge communications technology to U.S. and coalition forces. Over the next five years, the company will supply its Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System Terminals (MIDS JTRS), a software-defined, resilient Link 16 communication solution for air, ground, and maritime platforms.
Christopher E. Kubasik, Chair and CEO of L3Harris, emphasized the importance of the system in today’s threat environment. “Our resilient technology ensures all users in these coalitions know where friendly forces are and what they are doing to inform a common operating picture and achieve mission success,” he stated.
The Link 16 network underpins multi-domain operations by providing assured communications, situational awareness, command and control, and targeting capabilities. L3Harris, which acquired the Link 16 Tactical Data Links product line in January 2023, offers a full suite of devices that connect air, land, and sea platforms, with ongoing efforts to extend these capabilities to space-borne assets.
This contract builds on L3Harris’s 24 years of delivering interoperable communications solutions to U.S. armed forces and 57 allied nations, cementing its role as a key enabler of coalition success in multi-domain operations.
