Lockheed Martin and Jotne Forge a New Chapter in Digital Engineering

December 10, 2024 By admin Leave a Comment

Lockheed Martin and Jotne are strengthening their longstanding collaboration to revolutionize how data is managed, interpreted, and utilized across the Aeronautics, Space, and Defense sectors. This expanded effort, reflected in a $1,900,000 contract and part of a multi-year program, integrates Jotne’s advanced software solutions directly into Lockheed Martin’s operational environment, allowing seamless data exchange, efficient oversight of technical data packages, and significant reductions in the time and cost associated with complex product development.

By relying on open, publicly available international standards—particularly those established by the ISO 10303-STEP framework—the partners ensure that engineering and supply chain data flows uniformly and accurately among various platforms and applications. As data moves through a product’s entire lifecycle, these standardized approaches minimize costly rework, eliminate redundancies, and provide a common language for everyone involved in the intricate process of bringing advanced aerospace and defense products to market.

According to Dr. Michael R. Jahadi, this approach is essential for Lockheed Martin’s Model-Based Enterprise Playbook for Suppliers, supporting a future where Model-Based Engineering (MBE) drives increased competitiveness and efficiency. Jotne’s Vice President, Kjell Bengtsson, emphasizes the extraordinary value that cutting-edge concepts like Digital Thread and Digital Twin bring to industries operating at the forefront of innovation, allowing them to capture, track, analyze, and adapt product data in real-time. At the center of these capabilities stands Jotne’s flagship platform, TruePLM, which manages every stage of product development—from initial concept and design to ultimate decommissioning—while simultaneously ensuring maximum visibility, control, and adaptability.

By weaving together these advanced tools and internationally recognized standards, both companies are paving the way toward a leaner, faster, and more reliable digital engineering future that benefits the entire global supply chain and keeps them ahead in a world shaped by continuous technological evolution.
